Events
CVPIA has three annual events you can read more about below. We also share all upcoming NHPI community events happening statewide.
APRIL
Central Valley Pacific Islander Emerging Leaders Conference
An all-weekend event that connects NHPI youth to each other and their cultural roots; and to elevate their skills and knowledge for life beyond high school. Sessions have included learning about taking care of your mental health, Pasifika advocacy issues on the islands, cultural arts, pathways after high school other than college, and more. There is also free time for bonding, sports, and other fun activities.
OCTOBER
College Pathways Workshop
An all-day event supporting graduating high school seniors with college application processes from beginning to end. We teach how to find and decide on colleges or universities to apply to; how to complete college applications and even brainstorm on how to write personal statements; how to complete the FAFSA form; and how to prepare for college life. Speakers have included recruiters and representatives from both public and private colleges in California.
NOVEMBER
Community Gathering
After more than 150 responses to our Community Needs Assessment, the top priority for community members was to gather and strengthen community bonds. Thus, every November we host a Community Gathering to bring together NHPIs and their families and friends for fun and food. We give away frozen turkey and sides baskets or grocery gift cards and other resource bags. People can have fun with karaoke, volleyball, and more or visit NHPI food and cultural arts vendors.
